Water Is the Foundation of Everything

The simplest wellness habit you have is also the most powerful one.

Your body is made of approximately 60% water. Your brain is 80% water. Every cell, every organ, every thought you have today depends on how well hydrated you are right now.

And yet, most of us are quietly, chronically dehydrated — searching for food when we are actually thirsty, feeling tired when we simply need water, and denying our bodies the one thing they need most.

Water is not a supplement. It is the foundation... And like every foundation, what you choose, when you drink it, and how much you drink matters immensely.

Choose Your Water Wisely

Not all water is equal. Your body does not simply need hydration — it needs biologically compatible hydration. Here is what that means in practice:

✓ BEST CHOICE

High-quality clean mineral water. Naturally rich in calcium, magnesium, and electrolytes — the minerals your cells need to absorb water efficiently and function at their best.

✓ GOOD CHOICE

Filtered tap water through a high-quality filter. Removes chemical additives while preserving beneficial minerals. A practical and cost-effective option.

✓ DRINK WITH AWARENESS

Distilled water removes contaminants but also filters out the natural minerals your body relies on. If used regularly, ensure your diet is rich in minerals to compensate.

✓ DRINK WITH AWARENESS

Carbonated water can be refreshing occasionally, but still water is far easier for the body to absorb in the quantities you need each day.

One more layer: Drink your water at room temperature. Cold water chills the digestion, room temperature water is gentle on digestion and easier for your body to assimilate.

When You Drink Matters

Hydration is not just about volume — timing shapes how well your body actually uses the water you drink. These are the habits that make the biggest difference:

1.  Start your morning with water Your body loses water overnight through breathing and natural processes. Begin each day with 16–20 ounces of room temperature water ( better if squeeze half of lemon juice in it ) before anything else. This one habit alone can transform your energy, vitality, and digestion.

2.  Sip slowly — do not gulp Your cells absorb water gradually. Drinking large amounts all at once means most of it passes right through you. Instead, sip 2–3 ounces at a time, consistently throughout the day. Small, steady sips are far more effective than catching up all at once.

3.  Drink before meals, not during Drinking water 15–30 minutes before a meal prepares your digestive system and supports enzyme activity. Drinking large amounts during a meal can dilute your stomach's digestive fluids. Sipping a little during meals is fine — just avoid large quantities. Resume drinking water as usual 30 minutes after a meal.

4.  Use water as a check for clear hunger The brain processes hunger and thirst in the same area — so mild dehydration is frequently mistaken for a food craving. Before reaching for a snack, drink a glass of water and wait 5–10 minutes. You may find the craving disappears entirely.

5.  Stop one hour before bed Avoid large amounts of water in the hour before sleep. Your rest is sacred — protect it. Hydrate well during the day so your body is not playing catch-up at night.

How Much Water Do You Need?

Forget the generic 'eight glasses a day' rule. Your body is unique, and your hydration needs should reflect that. A simple, personalized formula:

Your daily water goal:

Body weight (lbs) ÷ 2 = ounces per day

Example: If you weigh 160 lbs → aim for 80 oz of water daily

As your wellness journey deepens, you can gradually build toward 12 glasses (100-120 oz) per day — tuning into your body's active signaling and matching its output naturally.

What are you drinking? and how does it make you feel?

Every sip of clean water is an act of care toward yourself. It is how you tell your body: I see you, I value you, I am tending to you.

Drink your water with love and your body will thank you in every way that matters.

With love,

Lisa
