Your breath is always with you. It is free, it is current, and science confirms it can shift your entire state — in as little as five breaths.
Think about the last time you felt truly overwhelmed. Your heart was racing. Your shoulders were tight. Your mind was spinning.
Now think about this: your body already has a built-in off switch for all of that.
Not a supplement. Not a program. Not a practice you need to book or buy. It is your breath. — used with a little intention.
During my cancer treatment, I discovered breathing was one of the most grounding tools I had. On the hardest days, I would pause, and breathe slowly and deeply. It did not take away from what I was facing. But it brought me back to myself. Back to the present. Back to gratitude for the breath itself.

Why Breathing Is One of Your Greatest Wellness Practices
Most of us breathe shallowly without realizing it.
Short, fast breaths keep your body in a low-level state of alertness — signaling to your nervous system that something is wrong.
Slow, intentional breathing does the opposite. It activates your parasympathetic nervous system — your body's natural calm-down mode. Research confirms that even a single 2–5-minute session of slow, deep breathing can reduce cortisol, lower heart rate, ease anxiety, and restore mental clarity.
In a world that asks you to rush, your breath invites you to return.
Here are two simple practices I love and recommend. Five minutes each. Five times a day. Your nervous system will thank you.

Two Breathing Practices to Begin Today
PRACTICE 1 Triangle Breathing — Reset Your Better Baseline Triangle Breathing — Your Calm-Down Reset This simple rhythmic practice activates your parasympathetic nervous system — shifting you from stress to stillness in just a few breaths. Visualize a triangle as you breathe: three equal sides, three equal counts.
Best for: moments of anxiety, overwhelm, before a difficult conversation, or any time you feel scattered. |
PRACTICE 2 Gratitude Breathing — Open Your Heart This practice pairs the physical power of deep breathing with the healing energy of gratitude. Three rounds of five breaths — each one deepening your sense of presence and appreciation.
Best for: morning intention-setting, after a stressful moment, before sleep, or anytime you want to reconnect with what truly matters. |
When to Practice — 5 Times a Day
You do not need to carve out extra time. Simply pick a practice and weave these moments into what is already there.
🌅 MORNING AWAKENING
Before you look at your phone. Start your day with you - not the world's noise. Practice reathing sets a beautiful intention for the day.
☀️ Midmorning
Around 10-11am, when energy begins to dip. A 2–5-minute breathing pause restores focus and clarity for better than reaching for a snack.
🌿 Midday
Before or after lunch. Use Gratitude Breathing to slow down and appreciate the nourishment you are giving your body.
🌇 Afternoon
Around 3-4pm, before your energy drops. Breathing resets your nervous system so you can finish your day with intention – not on autopilot.
🌙 Evening
Before sleep. Release the day. Breathing here is a gift to your body and your mind – it signals safety, rest and peace. Will help you sleep deeply.

Your Breath Is Always There
On the days when everything feels like too much — when you are exhausted, overwhelmed, or simply disconnected from yourself — you do not need to do something big. Just breathe. Slowly. On purpose. Five breaths. Five times a day. That is all it takes to begin coming home to yourself. Your breath has been with you from your very first moment of life. It is the most faithful companion you have.
